M5 : Lesson 1: What Is Somatics? Bottom-Up Approach

Somatics: Embodied Self-Awareness and Mindful Movement Practices

Somatic practices help to repattern your nervous system’s response to triggers, trauma activation, and stress

Take your time adding in the new bottom-up practices.

Again, I present more tools that you need to do daily, so pick the practices that resonate!

A suggested daily routine will be in lesson 10

Transcript

Regular module 5, semantics. Module 5 overview. Less than 1. What is semantics? More on the bottom up approach.
Lesson 2, somatic awareness and principles. We’ll learn about neuroception, interoception, and more, and all about teaching the body how to perceive I am okay. Less than 3, semantic orienting practices, some of our core regulate tools, Lesson 4, somatic movement overview. Lesson 5, somatic movement practices, more of our core regulate toolkit, Lesson 6. Riding the Polyvega wave with semantics.
Lesson 7. General movement options. Lesson 8. Pacing, less than 9, module 5, summary. Less than 1.
What is semantics? Cemetics is the field of study which emphasizes internal physical perception and experience. The word somatics is derived from the word soma, which means the body as perceived from within. Key principles of somatics is that it is a bottom up approach to nervous system regulation. Remember in module 1, how we have to help the body send cues of safety back up to the brain to interrupt the stress loop.
We’ve been doing a little bit of that with the vagal toning exercises. This is really important to also add in somatics. The practices of somatics help us to repattern the body’s nervous system response. I’m gonna ask you in this module to begin to really feel your body. Now, you can go through and watch this module and see how it feels.
There are some practices that are easier than others But do know, this is where we start to go inward, and it’s important to have some of the other practices in place before taking that step. These semantic practices that you’ll be learning help us to build embodied self awareness. We’ll learn more about what that means in a moment. So please don’t skip somatics. Even if you’re not fully ready right now, please come back to this module because I find that Many on the brain rewiring path do miss this step, and they have a difficult time ever being able to be present with what’s going on in their body.
Which does result in the inability to have a complete healing experience. At some point in our journey, we have to become embodied conscious beings. We have to be able to feel all the feels and yet be self assured at the same time. In the next lesson, we’ll learn more about somatic awareness and the principles of somatics.
