M3 : Lesson 6: What Can happen as You Apply The Tools of Regulation & Testimonials

What can happen is you apply the tools of regulation, shifting out of dorsal vagal and experiencing new activation symptoms temporarily, And lastly, we’re going to hear some testimonials from past Primal Trust graduates. I want to talk a bit about what it can look like when you begin to move out of dorsal vagal shutdown. I know we did go over this in module 2, but I wanna revisit it so that you are not surprised if you have interesting symptoms pop up. Remember, initially, it might not feel like you are moving towards safety.
In fact, as you move out of shutdown, if that’s where you’ve been, the energy in your nervous system might have a surge as you utilize these tools. You might go into some sympathetic dominance on your way to climb back up that ladder into ventral vagal safety. Like, this can feel like anxiety or panic, and it can affect your sleep sometimes. But this isn’t a bad thing. Remember, your energy was suppressed and locked up.
And as you use these tools and your nervous system gets more queues of safety, you move up that ladder and you might move through the sympathetic can chemistry, the stress chemistry, before you get good doses of dose chemistry running through your system. So if this happens, please do not quit these practices just pace yourself. Tetrate your practice by being consistent, but maybe doing a smaller amount of the bagel toning so that you have more spacing capacity to process the stress chemistry that might be occurring. I really wanna assure you that it’s okay pay for this to happen. You are just moving stagnant energy through your nervous system and adjusting to new chemical states.
And as you reassure yourself, you will continue to climb the ladder of safety. In this lesson, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from others who work through these primal us level 1 regulation tools with successful outcomes. I’d first like to share with you a very interesting story from one of our primal trust grads, Mary Anne. She shares her personal experience of how things were a little bumpy as she was moving into new states of regulation, and working through what she calls functional freeze and dorsal bagel shutdown. Everyone’s experience of how their body spots to bagel toning and regulation work is going to be different.
Everyone has a different body response of moving into safety. Some will get anxiety and activation first. Others might really need to rest and give the body a reset and others might experience pain and other symptoms as energy starts to move through the body differently. In this story, Marianne describes she uses the tools from level 1 to help her move out of this dorsal bagel functional freeze. Her body had a unique activation experience of creating pain, and it really describes how the body can have weird responses initially as we get our brain processing differently, as we get our vagal tone improved, and as our nervous system tries to make sense of all of these new inputs, And then she shares how one day these weird symptoms were just gone.
So it’s a story of hope and awareness of the bumpy ride of regulation. Hi. My name is Mary Anne Evans loan, and I wanna share my experience with moving through the Polyvacal stages. So when I came into Primal Trust, I was in dorsal vagal shutdown, which is also called functional freeze. Where I could do things, I could take care of my house, I could run errands, but I did have any enthusiasm for anything or any any drive, any joy.
I called myself a walking zombie. And I learned immediately into joining Primal Trust, but I was in dorsal vagal shutdown and started using the tools in what was called creating calm at the time to bring myself out of that. So I started using the exercises. I expressed actually leaned on somatics because that was something I had familiarity with and that my body was responded very well too, but I also used the other modalities as well. And within 3 or 4 days, I literally felt like I’m waking up.
I started to have energy, I started to feel brighter. Things started to look more bright to me out in the world. But along with that came a lot of pain. And pain is not a symptom that I normally have. So this was very different for me.
It wasn’t like activating you know, a symptom that I’ve had from limbic system impairment. I literally hurt. Like, my body hurts, my skin hurt, my hair hurt, my thoughts hurt, like everything hurt, not like in a debilitating way, just like in a constant, you know, ever everything is is hurt, is painful. And I knew because of primal trust that this was normal. Not necessarily that every person is gonna experience pain, which was my form of entering into the sympathetic state.
But that there was going to be activation when I went from dorsal vagal to the sympathetic state you know, on the other side was gonna be vintralvagal and freedom. So I knew that this section, he that for me equated to everything in my body and my mind hurting was a necessary part to get me where I wanted to go. So I just kept moving. Like, I believe it lasted about 2 weeks. I didn’t track it specifically, but that like, the time frame that comes to my mind.
And during that 2 weeks, I just accepted that that was how I felt and that the price was worth it. I knew it was worth it. I knew it was absolutely worth it. I didn’t have any doubt at all. And if I felt like overwhelmed or I felt like it was exhausting.
I just laid down. And if I laid down if there if it was something that I could continue to do while laying down. Like, my position didn’t change. I just kept doing it. So if I was in a Primal Trust class and I needed to lay down.
I laid down. If I was talking to my sixteen year old daughter and I needed to lay down, I laid down, and I kept talking. And one day I got up and it was gone. And I had moved through that phase and I now could access vintage vehicle, and I was on my way to the rest of my journey in bible test. Trust.
In this next testimonial video, we’re gonna hear from Laura as she describes how consistent use of eye exercises and heartmath breathing resulted in what she called shocking gains of function and allowed her to have enough regulation to work through the level 2 primal trust mentorship very successfully. Incorporating the level 1 tools into my daily practice made an incredible difference. Some of my favorite tools in level 1 were the heartmath breathing technique and the eye exercises. I picked my favorite 2 or 3 eye exercises. And for a period of time, I did those really, really consistently a few times a day.
After that period of time, I was absolutely shocked and blown away by how much more regulated my nervous system had become. It also really helped to deepen my baseline of calm, and give me just a shore foundation and a greater capacity to move into level 2 and do the work really successfully. I’m really grateful for level 1 and all that I learned there. In this last testimonial video, we’ll hear from Michelle who experienced a massive relief and symptoms after over 15 years of trying to figure out how to fix herself. She describes how using these level 1 tools was so effective in her process.
Hello. My name is Michelle, and I started Primal Trust in January of 2022. Having been someone who has tried to solve my emotions, with my brain for most of my life. I really enjoyed the approach, Doctor Kat. Offered in level 1 of her program.
Doing somatics, breathing exercises, bagel toning, eye exercises and just getting back into the body made such a huge difference in my ability to regulate my nervous system. Since adding the exercises to my daily practice, I’ve had improved men’s like I no longer feel seasick. My vision is better. I have less post exertional malaise. More energy, more motivation, and I actually feel rested when I wake up.
I have less depression, less anxiety, less sweating in social situations, and no more irregular heartbeat. I’m still in my healing journey, but this is the first time in 15 years that I’ve experienced any symptom relief. And with this new foundation, my brain retraining practice feels so much more real, honest, and compassionate because I am reconnected to my body, to my feelings, and I have a calmer nervous system. These are about a few of hundreds of testimonies of people having great success with the primal trust level 1, vagal toning practices as a core part of their self regulation. Please take the time to develop a routine that is right for you. In the following lesson, I will go over a summary of an example of how to create a routine. But your homework for module 3 is to side on a vagal toning routine that is best for you, that feels resonant for you, and stick to it as best as you can as we continue through the rest of regulate program. Now, you might even want to pause here at module 3 for a week or 2 to get your system used to new input before moving to module 4 brain retraining.
